An Interview With Author: Crystal Bussell

What was the inspiration behind The Cherry Larrys Adventures Series?

The inspiration behind "Cherry Larrys" came from my family. When our children were toddlers, my husband would call them Cherry Larrys, and they would always laugh. As the children grew, so did the cherry Larrys phrase; they became intrigued by what Cherry Larrys mean. I decided to give them the answers they seek by turning them into cool superheroes with a definition and a purpose.

When did you first realize you wanted to be a writer?

When I decided to write the book, it came naturally. I knew I could use these books to positively impact the hearts and minds of children.

Describe your writing space. What does it look like?

My writing space varies; I like to sit in a park and let the creativity flow. When I'm home, I have a designated area where I keep all my author-related items, laptops, and a dozen notebooks.

What do you think makes a good story?

What makes a great story is one that a reader can identify with and has a lesson behind it.

What do you think is the most difficult part of the writing process?

The most challenging part of the writing process is marketing and getting your book to your target audience.

What do you hope your readers take away from this series?

I hope this series gets children excited about reading, inspires them to dream big, and ignites the super within.

What was your favorite book when you were a child?

My favorite books as a child were "Judy Moody," "little engine that could," and "Oh, the places you'll go."

As a child, what did you want to do when you grew up?

I have a loved one who has autism and epilepsy. Seeing the challenges he faced is why I wanted to be a neurologist when I grew up.

What do you like to do when you're not writing?

When I'm not writing, I like to spend time with my family, reading, and exploring new adventures.

What’s your favorite writing snack or drink?

My favorite writing snack is fresh-cut mangoes and pineapples.
