The Little Piano by Trinity Bursey Children's Book Review

The Little Piano by Trinity Bursey is a children's book about a piano named Lyric who is eager to be played and she can't wait for the Master Musician, so instead, she goes with a lady and sees the world but discovers the world is not so kind. Just when all hope is lost, the Master Musician finally arrives and he shows Lyric that she is loved for just being herself.

I absolutely adore this book and I love the overall message: "You're loved because you're YOU, Not for what you can do!" Such a lovely reminder for us all! It's a great book to read along with your child to remind them that they are loved just as they are.

The colorful illustrations by John. D. Shull are fun and perfect for keeping a child's attention. I also loved how diverse the human characters were! Even though the book focused on instruments, when people were shown, there was a great mix of skin colors.

An Interview With Children's Book Author, Trinity Bursey

Q. What was the inspiration behind The Little Piano?

My inspiration behind the book was the fact that we are so loved by God. We may not always feel loved. We may even do things to make us feel more worthy of love. But God has always and will always love us. Hopefully, readers can get a glimpse of that through Lyric’s story,

Q. When did you first realize you wanted to be a writer?

I have always loved writing! I wrote my first officially “bound” book when I was ten. Although, I don’t think it actually dawned on me that I had a knack for story writing until much later.

Q. Describe your writing space.

My writing space is usually somewhere quiet, comfortable, and warm.

Q. What do you think makes a good story?

A good story is one that the author believes in telling and is infused with their unique creativity.

Q. What is the most difficult part of your writing process?

Hmm, I would say deciding on a story that fits well with my characters.

Q. What comes first for you: the plot or the characters? and why?

The plot always comes first for me. I love a good plot. Once you know where you want to go in the story, it becomes easier to know who you would like to take along for the ride.

Q. What was your favorite book when you were a child?

I really enjoyed the Berenstain Bears books.

Q. As a child, what did you want to do when you grew up?

I wanted to be an athlete, a cartoonist, and a voice-over actress.

Q. What do you like to do when you're not writing?

I like to laugh until my sides hurt, exercise, and watch movies.

Q. Can you plan an instrument? Which instrument is your favorite?

I can play a little bit of the guitar and the piano. Although the guitar is my favorite instrument, Lyric is by far my favorite piano!
